I'm currently in a musical with a local musical society. In the show is the daughter of one of the dancing choreographers. She's in year 8, so around 13. Watching her and listening to her talk and the way that she acts made me think of me at that age. Not that i drew any real similarity between us, but there were some things that were somewhat similar. If i could meet my 13 year old self, i would slap her in the face and tell her to just shut up. Watching this young girl in rehearsals yell out silly, cliche calls, repeat things said in a silly, juvenile manner, boasting in the most ludicrous way made me think of myself and how i was just a bit of a dick lol. Sometimes i think i just tried way too hard to be the funniest person, or the best person, or the person who did the most things - the best. Not that i ever realised this, or acted this way out of choice. I think that that is just the way the world works when you're 13 - juvenility is impossible to avoid. You don't just wake up 21, with a self-aware, sophisticated view of the world, whilst still living the life of a teenager. This poor girl doesn't seem to have much of a grasp on social interaction - not like you're supposed to have it down at 13, but well - it was just plain awkward. SO, my point? I'm glad you didn't know me 8 years ago haha.

I wrote this entry in the staffroom at school, on a free period. I am so glad to get work at schools - even if it's just a day here and there. I decided, upon much reflection and a lot of internal arguing, to take up my offer and do the Masters at the Conservatorium. Fuck. I was truly looking forward to 2009 being a year of no commitments. But argh.... the $950 government bonus for being a student... well... made it a little more palatable. Plus, for another 2 years (apart from if i defer, which is highly probable), i have managed to avoid the obligatory 'growing up' gift the world bestows upon university graduates - full time work.

I just want to go and act in New York. Is that too much to ask? Don't answer that.....

I always think of great things to write about in LJ when i'm away from the computer. Entertaining things that might be of some interest, other than my boring life lol. However, i feel this is just going to be another of those

                   boring entries haha.

OH!! Ok, i was listening to the radio the other day and a segment came on where the announcer was discussing the artist Rihanna and all the things she has achieved, by the tender age of 21. He encouraged listeners who were around that age to call up and list the achievements they had made. I think it's a great exercise to do -  in no way to boast, but to just put in writing the things you have done in your lifetime - representing your school, travelling, working, graduating uni, etc. So, for fun, i'm going to the list the things that i've done, that i think are pretty cool. :)

By 21 I Have:

                Become a Secondary school teacher.

Graduated from a Bachelor of Creative Arts and International Studies

Graduated from a Diploma of Education in Drama and H.S.I.E Studies

Begun a Masters of Music Education at The Conservatorium of Music

Lived in a foreign country on my own.

Worked on Broadway with a professional theatre company

Been in a Broadway musical (lol... as a 'speller' in 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee' ).

Performed in a musical that won a professional Australian Theatre award.

Hosted The Humphrey B. Bear Show for 2+ years.

Still been employed in my first casual job. (This is my 9th year at the Lollyshop).

Found the man i want to spend the rest of my life with.

Ok... it felt really nice to write this list. I think you should all do it too:P Gives yourself a little ego boost to see your achievements in writing:)

                  It's 8pm. Bed time. Lol.

Yesterday was fabulous. The end.

Ok, not the end. Yesterday Chris and I did the Harbour Bridge Climb!! Chris's Dad won two tickets, so he gave them to us!! Wooop!:) We go there, got all harnessed up, i went through the INTENSE trauma of having to undo my hair from its delicately positioned quiff/boofy/ fabulousless. *sigh*. "No metal, no hair accessories, no bows, no headscarves" said the girl employee who was far too proprer, routine and formulaic and made everything that came out of her mouth sound like it had been rehearsed a hundred times. Boooo to that. Me and my freshly washed hair was not prepared for nakedness. Oh well:P We scaled the coathanger, got some lovely photos and had fuuuun:D

THEN we went to my favourite FAVOURITE thai restaurant in the whole world - 'Yai's Thai' on King Street in Newtown. Hands down best green curry in the world:D We then made the epic journey back to Chris's place, where we watched Nadal and Verdasco battle it out in the semi final. Holy crapping crapstick it was a great game!!! But Nadal won... YAAAY:D By that time it was about 1:15am, so we continued to watch The Sound Of Music, which Chris had never seen!!!!! So i proudly introduced him to it:) We picked up where we left of with it from last time, watched it for around an hour, and between napping, chatting... and other things, got very distracted and didn't end up finishing it. Again. Lol. At 4am i dragged my tired ass out of there, crept home and crashed. Verrrrry nice:) Kind of like a Park Avenue hooker:D ... except in a long-term relationship:D

I'm now waiting for Chris to come over - we're going to finish this movie dammit!! Then off to a farewell, a party and other assorted shenanigans!

Chris is the best. The end:D

The death of John Travolta's son, Jett, is so incredibly tragic. I'm not quite sure why, but this has hit me quite hard and tears were practically crying themselves when i saw it on the news. Maybe it's the fact that he's a celebrity, and in some odd way, I feel that because i've watched him on the tv, in movies, watched his tele-biography and have simply been exposed to him, this almost has a personal element to it.

To lose anyone is horrific. A tragedy you would not wish on your worst enemy. But the death of a beaufitul boy, with Kawasaki Syndrome, who John and Kelly loved to the moon and back, seems to hit just that little bit closer to home.

He will never get to see his beautiful boy grow up.

Rest in peace, Jett.

I feel like i want to do something drastic. Like dye my hair pink. Or black. Maybe black? Cut a hot fringe and get some layers. Scrape off the coloured eyeshadow and leave a smokey black haze instead. Wear a sexy black and shimmery dress and just, for one moment, play a different character.

But only for a moment.

The way i look doesn't govern who i am, but it certainly is me, not me pretending to be something else or trying to imitate someone else's image. Through years of adding, trying, teasing, growing, colouring bits and parts of my body/being/self, i have come to create this look at is, well, me. And as an actor, i find it thrilling to lose those bits of 'me' and be someone else, if only for a moment. Or 2 hours on stage:D

I wore a brown/burgendy wig at the curtain call of a show i did a couple of months ago. People said it really suited me - made me look a bit sexy:P That's one thing i never get told (except for by Chris lol:P). Not that i search for it, don't get me wrong. I do get all sorts of lovely lovely comments from people, which i treasure so very much, but it's never sexy.

So. The resolution to all this? For someone who loves the way they usually look, but would also love a change?

I'm buying a hot black wig for my Christmas present. Oh, a sexy hot pink one too.

Yeaaaaaaaaaah:D:D:D

I just got in from a date. With a girl.

Lol, Ness and i went on a no boys allowed date night, which was awesome:) Chris is in NZ and Ness has no mans, so it was a lovely outing for the two of us:)

We had dinner at City Extra, then saw 'Slumdog Millionaire' at the Dendy at Circular Quay. Seriously. You should all go see it - we loved it:) It's set in India and the cinematography is just brilliant. It's totally worth it:)

I'm in a new dance show, opening next April, which should be awesome. What ISN'T awesome is that i have to be up in 6 hours to go to a rehearsal for it, followed by a 4 hour each-way car trip to Nelson's Bay for a Humphrey Show. *sigh*

Ah well, i have James's Christmas party to look forward to!!:) Woop woop:)

Remember that audition?:)

Well... i got the part!!!:) Yaaay:) It's Joan from Dames at Sea, a Busby Berkely style dance show, on next May. AWESOME:)

Joan

Brassy, confident and good-natured, Joan is both worldly and cynical as a result of living on the breadline, although this hard-living hasn’t entirely destroyed her heart of gold. She is extremely loyal, highly protective of her friends, and devastatingly outspoken towards her enemies. In spite of her tough exterior, Joan is able to pleasantly surprise herself twice in the one day; firstly, by rousing her friends towards optimism, and secondly, by falling in love with former flame Lucky.

I'm really quite excited:)

29 November 2008 @ 12:39 pm

I had my second installment of casual teaching at South Sydney High School on Thursday and Friday this week. It was totally, totally epic. I shall outline... :D

On Thursday i couldn't sleep. I woke up at 4:30am, 4:45am, 5:00am, 5:10am... i just kept waking up in silly increments, totally wide awake. So i went with it, got up, had breakfast and then managed to have a ten minute nap before waking up for real at 5:45am. I had to be out of the house at 7:00am to wrestle with the morning traffic to MAROUBRA!!!!!!! In case you're not familiar, it's roughly a 30km drive and in peak hour, it's hell. But yeah, got up, got dressed, but got out of the house at around 7:20am. Bad move. I didn't get to school until 8:40am, ten minutes later than i should have been, but oh well. Whatever. It was ok. I signed in , went to my staffroom, had about 12 seconds to settle in before i had roll call. As i walked to my classroom, i pretty much had the whole school in either fits of whispers, going:

"Omg who's that?? who's she?? she looks weird... is she a teacher?? she looks cool! i like her hair!"

or...

"BAHAHAHAHAHAHAH what's THAT? what a freak!! BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA."

Just for those who don't 'know' know me, i dress a little.... erm... differently:P So yeah, lol. But I have the conviction of a brick wall, so all the bad bullshit just rolls off my back - thank goodness. Also, i am aware that my 'look' is always going to attract attention, no matter what, so i bring whatever reaction i get on myself. Which i'm cool with:D

So yeah, back to roll call. I had that, was fine, then had year 11 drama, who were AWESOME!@#$%^&* They pretty much ran their own classroom, which was awesome. We had so much fun playing BANG! and all other sorts of games. Then i watched them direct scenes from 'A Streetcar Named Desire.' Very cool:) I then had year 9, then a year 8 science class. Lol!! That's what happens when you're a casual teacher... you can cover any class, not just your specialisation. It was interesting:P A whole bunch of kids wouldn't do their work and since the period was the last before lunch, a threat that worked very well was keeping them in at lunch:D So at the end, i stood at the door of the science lab and said

"Now, anyone who thinks they've done enough work to be allowed to lunch, come and line up. The rest of you can stay until you're done."

A few of the good kids were done, so i let them out. I sent some of the ratbag kids back to their desks because they weren't done. I was set to have at least 15 kids in for lunch. I let one or two more out the door then.... i felt this whooosh, looked up and all the kids who were meant to be on detention were GONE! They had escaped out a secret door in the lab, that lead to a prep room, and then outside.

HAHAHAHHAHAHHAHAHHAAA!!!

Cheeky little buggers:P All i could do was laugh. I was only a casual, so my detention meant nothing, their escape meant nothing to me and i didn't particularly want to give up my lunch lol! It was very funny:P Last period of the day I had year 8. I had been warned that this would be a tough lesson, the kids were insane, it would be a hard task and if i could "keep the kids from jumping out the windows, the lesson would be a success." Needless to say i walked in prepared for the viliest, rowdiest, most evil children in the world, who would be throwing chairs, wrestling and breaking things. I was pleasantly surprised!! They were just a bunch of chatty, apathetic kids. PAH! I could deal with them stnading on my head. I just turned the bitch in me on, told them to snap the hell out of their complacent attitudes and just get over it lol. We played some games, one failed quite epically, but i didn't care. I could handle them and i was very proud:)

The end of the day finally came and i was really happy with how it went. My brain was tired and i was ready just to get home and have a nap lol. I jumped in my car, drove out the school, onto Maroubra Road and then THIS LUNATIC DROVE INTO MY CAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ARGHGHHGHH!!

Seriously. There were two lanes, i was in the left hand one. There was a bus two cars in front of me, so the car in front and myself were half pulled out into the right hand lane. Pretty obvious we were there and getting around a bus. There were no cars in the right hand lane at the time. I was sitting in that right hand lane for a good 30 seconds - i didn't just randomly pull out into the lane, as there was another car in front of me - not like i could get by. And then this crazy lady, who obviously thought she could squeeze by me through the gap tried... and epically failed. The best part about it was.... all the damage to my car was a cracked headlight. LOL. Her car was a new Mercedes and the front passenger headlight was hanging out and the front corner was a little crunched. And the idiot tried to blame ME! I was STATIONARY!! Lol.

Anyway, so that really wasn't a great ending to a hectic day. I drove home, with a few tears of pure frustration and a call to Nan. She always fixes everything...

"Don't WORRY Courtney! This is the LEAST of your worries!! Don't WORRY we'll FIX it!"

Thank God for her and Grandad. Seriously, i'd be dead without them.

I got home, through all the traffic, at about 4:45pm, got undressed, had a shower, had a well deserved cup of tea at had an hour and a half nap. I got up at 6:45pm to get dressed for an audition for a musical. It was just for fun, so we'll see:P

I got to the audition, armed with jazz shoes and tap shoes - without the taps on. The show is VERY tap heavy - you have to be a fairly good tapper to get a moderate roll. I've been tapping since i was 5, but haven't tapped seriously in about a year and a half. So i was pretty rusty, or so i thought. After the singing audition (with some frantically hand-written accompaniment for the pianist - i didn't bring my music... lol) we were sent to the tap room to learn a routine. I told the lady that i didn't have my taps with me and hoped the shoes i had were ok. She said that she really needed me to have taps, so she could hear the sound. My heart crumpled a little. But then she said

"Wait a second, what size are you?"

"A ladies 8"    I replied.

"Here, take these" as she pulled a pair of taps out of her bag. WTF! They were a liiitle big, but pretty much perfect. HAA!! Lifesaver!

So we learned the routine, i nailed the single, double AND triple time-steps [a 'time step' in tap could be likened to a formula in maths... just something you learn lol] as we did them one by one in a line up. I was very happy hehe:) We then did the routine for the audition panel and then did some cold reads adn then i left. Fingers crossed. It's not a massive production, but it would be nice - just to keep my toes warm, as they say:P

I got home at about 10:15 or so, had some tea and a shower, fluffed around organising things, and then it was magically midnight. Chris called and we talked for about an hour. I told him i was still going to boot camp in the morning [a 5:10am wake up for a 6:15 start. i would have had to have left at 6:45 to get dressed and get to school on time. So really, half an hour's exercise just wasn't worth it]. Chris laughed and said

"as IF you're going! You're a joke!!"

I was totally prepared to go. But he convinced me out of it. Nan couldn't, but Chris managed to lol. So i didn't. Good move:) I got up at the normal time, and began to get ready. I was searching for the right pair of undies and they weren't in my draw, so i went looking in the study, through the laundry that had just come off the line. I found my undies, but they were all caught up in themselves. I began to untangle them, put my hand in them and felt something - a thought it was a leaf or something.... then it moved..... it was a

FUCKING GRASSHOPPER AHHHHHHHHHHHRHFSHGBOUIGHFGHD%$^&*

Seriously traumatic event.

I'm going to stop here. This is by far the longest entry in the world and if you've managed to get to here, thank you for listening to my ridiculous ramblings lol:)  Yaaaaaaaaay:)

So i have no idea what's coming next.

Uni is something that i never thought i'd finish. I don't mean that i thought i could never do it, i just never imagined the end coming. But it has. Very very quickly. In the years that i've been performing, i'd made it my mission that once this 'burden' of uni was over, then would come my golden opportunity to take the performing scene by storm and give everything my best shot. I thought that once i was free of study and exams and tutes and assessments, i'd be able to capitalise on all the time and energy i would have and start making tread in the direction of my true life's ambition.

Turns out this is far harder than i thought. Lol.

I am SO tired. I think this year has finally hit me, in terms of what i've achieved, along with the masses of energy expended lol. All i want to do know is sleep, because i'm convinved that i've earned it. But then i look at everyone around me, including my NAN who is still working full time!!! WTF!! So then i feel so guilty when she rocks off to work every morning, and i'm still in bed, dreading getting up at 8am. Arghgh lol.

In other news - I NEVER want to be in the corporate world. Ever. I went shopping at DFO yesterday with a friend of mine, who's doing a clerkship at a law firm. She was buying the plainest knee length skirts, the plainest shirts and apparently couldn't buy a gorgeous pair of black heels, because of a tiny brass buckle on the side. Apparently it was too 'garish' for the office.

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO-URNS to THAT!

I couldn't ever imagine being restricted in what i wear to work. Which is why i teach, lol. Because you can't be told what to wear - unless of course your tits are hanging out and your fanny is getting a sun-tan. But some stupid unspoken dress code in the corporate world does NOT appeal to me in the slightest. So yeah, NEVER doing that. Lol.

Otherwise, i find so much joy in finding the oversize Special K flakes in the cereal pack. Not just the regular ones, but the gargantuan ones that are about 3 times the size of a regular flake. Yum:)

Oh oh oh and i just bought new tap shoes, VERY similar to these!!!!!!! Mine have more of a pointed toe and prettier stitching detail!!!! WOOOOP!!

I'm getting taps for them this week. It's totally justified. My tap shoes that i've been dancing with for years are worn out. Lol, YAY for new dance shoes!!!:)

So, i walked into Tash's perfume shop today and was hit with THIS!!

It's Gwen Stefani's new perfume line. There are 5 in the L.A.M.B. range, Love, Angel, Music, Baby and G(wen) fragrances. ZOMG AWESOME!!! I'm wearing 'G' right now - it's been on for 4 hours and still smells incredible. If you're mildly interested in Gwen Stefani, Harajuku kitsch, or just need a new perfume, seriously check these out. Yuuuuum.

I'm starting Boot Camp number TWO tomorrow. I had this week off (from the last one) but thought i needed another. Lol. Gym nerd to the maaaax. At the end of the last Boot Camp, i did a SEVEN MINUTE PLANK! Wooop! That's from doing a 3 minute one, 3 weeks before. Ole!

I'm in a pretty massive rut. Well, not rut, but well... limbo. I've finished uni forever. Two degrees by 21, a career that i could pick up tomorrow and would carry my through the rest of my life, in great fashion. Loads of holidays, great pay, shorter at-job hours.

.... but no. I choose the insane option: go out into the big bad world, audition relentlessly until i get my big break in a Woolworths ad and get paid for my pain. I choose not to move out, due the the restrictive financial options that come with wanting to be an actor. I choose the crazy road of life. I'm itching to extricate myself from structure and rigidity. I hate not being autonomous, which i must say has gotten better since finishing uni, but now that i'm a free agent, i feel the need to rebel against the future i have set up for myself. It just doesn't excite me... in any way. I THRIVE on the instability of acting and the unknown. The not knowing if you're working from one day to the next could not be more appealing to me. The mediocrity of routine makes me want to puke.

Now, i know this is no way to live. Yes - i'll have to move out some day. Yes - i'll have to have a real job to support myself at some point.

BUT NOT NOW!!!! ARGHGHH!!!!!!!!! I just want to experience the instability of my passions, knowing that i can always come home crying to my Grandparents. Not when i'm 40 and knowing that i'll never get that chance again.

I'm wearing whorish red nailpolish. Like the whore that i am.

:D

Today marks a year to the day that Chris and I started going out. Longevity ftw!!:D

It's pretty flippin' unbelievable. To me, anyway. I never imagined that i could hold down a man for this long and have it feel as comfortable as if we'd been together for a hundred years, but as fresh as if our first kiss was yesterday. He is truly an incredible man. Happy One Year Chris:)<3

On Friday Chris and I went out to dinner at The Spice Market - a delicious little Asian restaurant in Neutral Bay - with his Dad and Step Mum. We had curry puffs, rice, veges, and other assorted meats that the carnivores of the world eat and i just watch:)  It was a beautiful balmy night and we simply enjoyed each others company.

Yesterday i got to spend some quality time with Nan, which was awesome. We just went to the shops, but it was nice to be on our own. We are best friends and serious soulmates - no one gets me like she does. It's wonderful:) After an uneventful few hours at the shops, Nan dropped me home and went out for a few hours with my Grandad. In that time, i thought i would do something nice for her - i sewed her dressing gown haha:) The seems had all come apart and there were rips and tears everywhere, so i thought i'd mend it. She's had it since i was little and it's totally sentimental, so it had to be sewn!!:) She was very surprised and loved it, which was nice, considering my sewing could be mistaken for a blind person randomly stapling material:P

Today was pretty sweet too:) Chris and i went to the Newtown Festival, for a chill, some cool music and to just spend more than an hour with each other - awesome:) However, i got epically burnt and I now resemble a candy cane. We ate turkish gozleme [well, i got a piece and he ate the whole plate:P], sushi, drank lemonade and basked in the sunshine [until i became crispy and not too unlike a barbequed lobster:P]. I didn't spend a cent, which is very unlike me. Hurray:) We then got the train/bus back to Military Road, where we got icy poles and ate them in glee as we strolled back to his house. There is nothing like an ice block on a stinking hot day. So very refreshing:)

After we got in, we took a walk down to the pool and dipped our feet into the cool water, as we looked out onto the harbour and reminisced about the last year of our lives and how awesome and crazy it is to be able to say you've spent a year a year in love as someone's boyfriend or girlfriend. Because we met and were brought together in such a crazy and wonderful way, i think we like to reminisce and remember the cute little details of our first few dates and how it all came to be. It was lovely:) Then we got a rug and lay on the grass near the moor point for the boats and watched the day end. Pure heaven:)

And now i'm home. Burnt, but feeling fabulous:) Hurray for the things that make you truly happy:)

Ok, so i've been on the Britney Spears comeback wagon since she went off the rails. I've always had a massive respect for her and knew should could give that shitty Kevin Federline the flick, say up yours to the media and the people who didn't believe in her, and get the hell back on top.

Hello gorgeous:

Oh and P.S....... i freakin' LOVE this new avatar.... BRILLIANT!!!!:D

I'm definitely the most nocturnal person i know.

I cleared the whole day to do my assignment. Chris and I even made a wake-up agreement - at 8am this morning, whoever woke up first would call the other to wake them up, so we'd both get our work done. I called first. We talked for an hour, but well, at least we were both ready to go at 9am. Yeah. Right. I went back to sleep, woke up a couple of hours later. Shit. But that was ok, i still had all day. So what did i do? Fucked around for 4 hours, unable to concentrate. Had 2 naps, a shower and just pissed about, unable to get my thoughts into gear. It's now 4:38 and i've written 300 words. But when 9pm hits, i'll get this wave of creativity and writing flair and manage to write the other 3000 in a matter of 2-3 hours. 2am is just my time.... the time when i get the good thoughts and stuff just spills out of my mind, through my fingers and into my work.

I guess that's a lifetime of being a performer for you. Having shows that have a call at 6pm, start at 8pm, over by 11pm, out of the theatre at 11:45, home by 12:15am, take your clothes and make-up off, have a shower and a nibble of something (because you haven't eaten since 5:30pm) sit down at 1am to begin the work you need to get done, before your other life begins tomorrow morning. This was the way all through school for me. From primary, right through Year 12, i was usually in two or more productions at a time... rehearsing, performing and slowly forcing my system to function on 4-5 hours sleep a night if i was lucky. So i guess the hours that i wasn't at school, or performing, or sleeping were usually between the hours of midnight and 3am... so i was forced to be incredibly productive in those short few hours.

This pattern has continued into uni, which is fine. Until i get a whole day off to do something... and i just can't!!! It's like my brain is saying 'No no no!! You're meant to be out... doing something!!! Get AWAY from the computer!!" And you know what... i just can't force it. Raahhh! I work my best at night... but that's no good to me when i have a whole day free. Argh.

Chris has probably finished all his work by now. Bitch. Lol;):P
